Jai Arrow has officially reached his 100-game milestone for the South Sydney Rabbitohs in an emotional final appearance against the Sydney Roosters at Allianz Stadium. Following his diagnosis of motor neurone disease (MND) and subsequent announcement of medical retirement, the NRL granted special dispensation allowing Arrow to start his final two matches before being substituted almost immediately. During the milestone match, the 31-year-old was met with a guard of honour from former players and a standing ovation from a crowd of approximately 45,000 people. Tributes included musical performances of ‘Stand by Me’ and ‘You’ll Never Walk Alone’. The Rabbitohs secured a 50-20 victory over the Roosters during the event. Support for Arrow continues to be widespread within the rugby league community, including ongoing assistance from Roosters chairman Nick Politis, who previously helped fund a wellness retreat for the player. In a further show of support, the NRL has announced a special tribute for Arrow during the Grand Final at Accor Stadium, ahead of the match between the Sydney Roosters and the Newcastle Knights. As part of the ceremony, Arrow is expected to complete a lap of honour accompanied by a musical performance of ‘You’ll Never Walk Alone’. The crowd of approximately 80,000 will be encouraged to participate by gesturing as if they are firing an arrow. NRL Executive Chairman Peter V’landys described the event as a ‘surprise’ and a moment that matters.
