By mid-September, protests shifted toward living conditions intensified at the Jammu and Kashmir Girls’ Hostel. Students alleged administrative malpractice concerning Hostel regarding severe mismanagement of the hostel mess, citing poor mess. Students reported finding insects in food quality, late and glass fragments in vegetables. Specific grievances included the lack of breakfast, delayed lunch service, and the presence of male staff in the dining area. Students also expressed concerns regarding surveillance, alleging that the requirement to provide personal contact details to receive food could be misused. Protesters further alleged that the university failed to honor previous agreements, claiming the food contractor was not replaced as promised but was instead operating under a different name. Demonstrators demanded the cancellation of the current food vendor’s contract contract, the deployment of female staff, and the resignation of the Provost and Warden.
