Jamie Foxx health recovery and comedy return
Overview
Actor and comedian Jamie Foxx has provided details regarding his recovery from a 2023 brain bleed and stroke. Foxx described himself as a ‘three percenter’ because medical staff indicated his survival chances were slim, noting that he previously required a wheelchair.
During his rehabilitation, Foxx experienced hallucinations, including a belief that he saw a white version of himself. He attributed these episodes, along with being influenced by internet conspiracy theories suggesting he was being cloned, to heavy medication and the disorientation of his medical condition.
Foxx is now returning to standup comedy with his Hulu special, ‘Take Care of Yourself’. In discussions regarding the production, the 58-year-old entertainer described comedy as a vital life force, stating, ‘Without these jokes, I would be dead. I mean that seriously.’ He noted that he requested to watch comedy during his hospitalization to help absorb positive energy for his recovery.
The special marks a shift in his performance style; while Foxx previously avoided personal storytelling, he now uses the platform to discuss aging, his family, and his life with unprecedented transparency.
