The Jammu-Srinagar National Highway (NH-44) has faced repeated closures and heavy traffic restrictions continues to face disruptions due to landslides, rockfalls, and intense rainfall. Earlier disruptions led to the postponement of the Amarnath Yatra and Vaishno Devi pilgrimages, prompting Northern Railway to operate a special eight-coach MEMU service between Srinagar and Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Katra to assist stranded travelers. To manage movement, Traffic Police issued advisories recommending alternate routes, such as the old road via Jawahar Tunnel or the Patnitop route, and restricting travel to specific daytime windows. Heavy motor vehicles have been permitted only on alternate days following the passage of Amarnath Yatra convoys. In response to road conditions, authorities have advised against night travel between Ramban and Banihal due to risks of landslides and shooting stones. On July 31, heavy rain rendered the road surface slushy and slippery, forcing a full shutdown of the section between Udhampur and Banihal. This led the Shri Amarnath Shrine Board to relocate registration and e-KYC services to the Bhagwati Nagar base camp. While repair crews have worked on the Ladha-Samroli stretch, Weather warnings persist as the Meteorological Centre Srinagar has issued further warnings for predicts light to moderate rain and potential flash floods thundershowers through mid-August, maintaining the need for regulated traffic with risks of flash floods, mudslides, and caution regarding waterlogging. Commuters face ongoing single-lane stretches at Dalwas in Udhampur and between Marog and Kishtwar Pathar. Pathar due to uneven surfaces and vehicle breakdowns. By late August, the Traffic Police issued further advisories due to inclement weather and shooting stones. Movement of gas tankers remains restricted between 7 am and 3 pm, while inflammable material transport is permitted only between 5 pm and 5 am beyond Chenani. The Meteorological Centre Srinagar has extended warnings of hot, humid weather with rain spells through early September, noting that intense localized showers could trigger further landslides and flash floods.
