This was driven by a 360.6% surge in imports from the United States, reaching 4.34 million kl, while imports from the United Arab Emirates and Saudi Arabia fell by 18.4% and 7.4%, respectively. Despite these shifts, supply concerns persist due to the temporary closure of Saudi Arabia’s East-West Pipeline and halted operations at the Yanbu port on the Red Sea. Shunichi Kito, Chairman of the Japan Petroleum Association, stated that Japanese refineries have secured enough crude to meet demand through the end of November. While some Saudi shipments continue via shuttle tankers through the Strait of Hormuz, Japan continues to coordinate with the International Energy Agency (IEA) to release oil from strategic reserves. To mitigate extreme energy insecurity, Japan is actively seeking to diversify its energy procurement sources and transport routes.
