In early late July 2026 Japan moved to centralise its fragmented intelligence apparatus, passing from legislation that to operation. The launch has drawn heightened public attention, partly spurred National Police Agency and is staffed by the drama series “VIVANT,” which depicts a special‑forces unit roughly 730 personnel. The government is preparing an anti‑espionage law and has amplified awareness is evaluating the possible creation of espionage threats. Scholars note remaining challenges such as an external foreign‑intelligence service modelled on the politicisation CIA or MI6.
