Following a character‑driven shaved‑ice surge that began in late June 2026, the trend spread nationwide through July and August. Tokyo Disney Sea celebrated its 25th anniversary with a limited‑time “シャイブアイス” trio of lemon, apple and peach flavors (¥650) from 1 July to 14 September. Nijigen no Mori added a Godzilla‑themed menu and a Dragon Quest Island Hyado‑shaved‑ice offering from 18 July. Pop‑up and specialty shops opened across the country: ONDO | SHAVE ICE & DOLCE in Saitama (11 July), Ice Cloud in Osaka’s Tenjin‑bashi‑rokuchōme, “Koi Ori” in Oita City (13 June‑30 Sept), and Taiichi‑an’s three‑day Kakigori Tasting in Iwata (18‑20 July). Tokyo’s Nihonbashi district hosted the ECO EDO summer festival with a shaved‑ice fair at COREDO Muromachi Terrace, while Matsuzakaya Ginza ran a two‑month “Kakigori Collection GINZA” rotating five renowned shops. In August, the trend expanded into major department stores and specialty pastry shops. Lumine Ikebukuro hosted ‘Kori no Ne’ from 11 August to 23 September, using natural ice from Yamanashi Prefecture. Hankyu Umeda Main Store held the ‘Honjitsu, Kakigori Biyori’ event from 26 August to 1 September, featuring Miyazaki Hyokaten, Kyohika ~~Tsurara,~~ Tsurusara, and Fruit Stand Andy. La Mora Pastry Shop at Royal Pines Hotel Urawa launched its third installment of dolce shaved ice through 30 September, featuring chestnut, persimmon, and strawberry flavors. Due to past nuisance behavior, Patisserie Cuisson implemented dining restrictions, limiting service to groups of two or fewer and guests aged junior high school or older. Major food service providers and confectioneries also participated. Cocos offered a ‘Dubai Chocolate’ shaved ice with pistachio syrup, while Gust featured matcha kuromitsu. Imuraya renewed its ‘Taiyaki Ice’ series and launched a ‘Yawamochi Ice Hojicha Warabi’ dessert. As the season transitions, Matsuya Ginza is hosting the second half of its ‘Kakigori Collection GINZA’ from 4 September to 16 September. This installment features the Setagaya-based cafe ‘Kashiya,’ operated by Ryusuke Koike, chairman of the Japan Kakigori Association.
