Japan yen-denominated stablecoin implementation
Overview
In September 2026, the Japan Blockchain Foundation initiated a six-month demonstration program to test the social implementation of the yen-denominated stablecoin, EJPY. The trial involves 26 partners, including financial institutions and local governments, to verify use cases such as cross-border remittances, business-to-business transactions, and digital asset settlements using the Japan Open Chain infrastructure.
Following this, in October 2026, Startale Japan launched the ‘Stablecoin Diffusion Bond,’ which represents Japan’s first digital corporate bond to pay both interest and principal in a yen-denominated trust-type stablecoin, JPYSC. This 99.9 million yen issuance aims to demonstrate the integration of stablecoin infrastructure with traditional corporate financing and capital markets.
