Japan youth training for forestry and rail

Overview

In late July 2026 Japan highlighted its push to attract young workers to the forestry sector. The Platinum Concept Network showcased the FORESTRISE2026 expo in Tokyo and the National Forestry Union offered a free online guidance session to introduce forestry careers and support the Forestry Agency’s “Green Employment” drive.

A week later, on‑site training programs were reported in Okayama and Toyama. High‑school students participated in a hands‑on forestry machine‑operation workshop that has run for 33 years, while a railway operator held its first driver‑experience event for students. Both initiatives aim to raise awareness of modern forestry and railway jobs and to mitigate looming labor shortages in these sectors.
