Data from the Nikkei Industry Map 2027 indicates a significant shift in the digital camera market among Japanese manufacturers. Fujifilm has overtaken Nikon to become the third-largest camera shipper, ending Nikon’s seven-year streak in that position.
Fujifilm’s shipments grew from 430,000 units in 2023 to 1.16 million in 2025, an increase of approximately 170%. This growth, driven by the popularity of its X-series ecosystem and Instax instant print series, has secured Fujifilm an 11.8% market share.
Conversely, Nikon’s market share declined from 11.7% to 8.9% as shipments fell from 960,000 units in 2024 to approximately 880,000 in 2025. Nikon attributed its downward sales forecast to demand contraction in China, reduced sales of interchangeable lens cameras, rising memory costs, US tariffs, and geopolitical instability in the Middle East.
In the broader market, Canon maintains leadership with a 45.7% share, while Sony remains the second-largest manufacturer with a 24.6% share.
