Recent events in Japanese horse racing have featured significant victories and record-breaking payouts.

In mid-August, the thoroughbred Danon History secured a dominant eight-length victory in the Akanko Tokubetsu at Sapporo Racecourse. This performance, following a recovery period, has established the horse as a contender for the Kikuka Sho.

By early September, notable results continued at Sapporo Racecourse, where Shonan Galleon won the 61st Sapporo 2-Year-Old Stakes (G3) by six lengths. Concurrently, at Nakayama Racecourse, a major upset occurred when the 17th favorite, Cathedral Quartz, won a 3-year-old maiden race. This victory triggered a trifecta payout of 52,948,520 yen, marking a record for Nakayama Racecourse and the second-highest trifecta payout in JRA history.

On September 5, Shonan Galleon maintained its strong form at Sapporo Racecourse, securing a six-length victory in the 61st Sapporo Nisai Stakes (G3) under heavy track conditions. Jockey Katsuma Sameshima highlighted the horse’s confidence and potential for future major races.

In contrast, at Hanshin Racecourse, the Hong Kong-based horse Fast Network finished 15th in the Centaur Stakes (G2). Following a struggle in the final stretch, trainer C. Ip noted a potential 28kg weight loss since the horse’s previous race. A decision regarding participation in the Sprinters Stakes is pending a condition assessment.
