Jaxson Dart expected to undergo season-ending knee surgery

Overview

Following the knee injury sustained during the September 21 game against the Los Angeles Rams, definitive medical evaluations have confirmed the severity of Jaxson Dart’s condition. While initial reports speculated on a possible MCL sprain, subsequent MRI results revealed more extensive damage, specifically involving the meniscus and the posterior cruciate ligament (PCL).

The injury occurred on the opening drive of the Week 2 game when Dart was hit by Rams defenders Byron Young and Josaiah Stewart, causing his knee to bend awkwardly. As a result, the 23-year-old quarterback is expected to undergo season-ending surgery on his left knee. This development marks a significant setback for the Giants following Dart’s strong Week 1 performance.

Giants head coach John Harbaugh confirmed that evaluations were ongoing while the team prepared for various possibilities. With Dart sidelined, the team will continue to rely on veteran Jameis Winston to lead the offense for the remainder of the 2026 season. Winston saw limited action in relief during the Rams game, completing 11 of 27 passes for 111 yards and one interception.
