JCB Hydromax hydrogen land speed record attempts

Overview

JCB’s hydrogen-powered Hydromax streamliner, driven by Andy Green, has been conducting speed trials at the Bonneville Salt Flats. The vehicle, which utilizes two hydrogen internal combustion engines producing approximately 1,600 hp, successfully broke the Southern California Timing Association (SCTA) record for the Blown Gas Streamliner class with a two-run average of 368.347 mph.

Green, a retired Royal Air Force pilot, is using the project to demonstrate hydrogen as a clean-energy alternative. Following the successful SCTA record, the project is moving toward an official FIA land-speed record attempt to surpass Green’s previous diesel-powered record of 350.092 mph and establish new world records for hydrogen internal combustion engines.
