Construction of the Jeddah Tower in Saudi Arabia is progressing toward its goal of becoming the first building to exceed one kilometer in height. After a seven-year hiatus that began in 2018, work resumed in early 2025 following a new contract worth over US$2 billion. This pause was linked to a massive anti-corruption campaign in 2017 that resulted in the detention of various executives and co-financiers associated with the project. Recent milestones show the tower has surpassed 420 meters and reached 430 meters, with approximately 107 floors completed. The central core is reportedly rising at a rate of about one story per week. Designed by Adrian Smith + Gordon Gill Architecture, the skyscraper is intended to surpass the Burj Khalifa as the world’s tallest structure. The project, which includes residential, office, and luxury hotel spaces, is currently targeted for completion in 2028.
