Jewelry thefts in India via distraction tactics

Overview

Reports have emerged regarding multiple jewelry thefts in India involving organized groups using distraction tactics.

In Zaheerabad, Sangareddy district, a group of women reportedly wearing burqas targeted the Jai Bhavani Jewellery Store. While one individual engaged staff by asking to see items like nose pins, others allegedly stole gold ornaments valued at approximately Rs 10 lakh. Local police have registered a case and are investigating using CCTV footage.

Similar patterns were identified in other regions. In Bhubaneswar, police arrested three women for allegedly stealing gold from a shop near Damana Square after using a distraction method to hide items in clothing. In Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, Maharashtra, a group of burqa-clad women and male accomplices allegedly stole 1.5 kg of gold worth roughly Rs 2 crore from Vishwas Jewellers. Investigators believe the gang conducted reconnaissance before using a distraction to reach under a counter and seize jewelry.
