Joko Widodo joining Indonesian Solidarity Party

Former Indonesian President Joko Widodo has officially joined the Indonesian Solidarity Party (PSI). Widodo confirmed he has been a member since October 14, 2025, and recently presented his membership card to party cadres to address public skepticism regarding his political commitment.

During a regional coordination meeting in Bandung, Widodo noted that the party’s organizational structure in the area is complete and urged members to remain active within their communities. He also expressed that the party should not be concerned by the parliamentary threshold, whether it is set at 5 percent or higher.

Political analysts suggest this move could significantly alter the Indonesian political landscape ahead of the 2029 elections, potentially shifting the relationship between Widodo and current President Prabowo Subianto. PSI leadership has announced that Widodo is expected to be officially inaugurated as the Chairman of the PSI Advisory Board on November 16, 2026, during the party’s national leadership meeting and anniversary celebration in Surabaya.

On September 24, 2026, representatives from the Bandar Lampung branch of the PSI, led by DPD Chairman Randy Aditya GG, met with Widodo at his residence in Solo, Central Java. During this thirty-minute meeting, Widodo provided guidance for the party’s 2029 General Election preparations. He advised leadership to ensure the party’s presence is felt through positive social activities and by providing spaces for citizens to voice their concerns.
