João Pessoa holiday service and activity announcements

The city of João Pessoa has announced various operational changes and public programs in observance of upcoming national holidays.

Initially, the Secretary of Urban Development (Sedurb) detailed holiday schedules for local commerce, noting that five popular shopping centers would close. Operating hours for public markets were set to vary, with some locations like Mercado da Torre maintaining normal hours while others, such as Mercado de Jaguaribe, remained closed.

Following this, the City Hall outlined a program of free cultural activities, including magic shows and craft fairs, to celebrate Children’s Day. While municipal administrative offices are scheduled to close, essential services—including health units (UPAs), municipal hospitals, SAMU-JP, security, and urban mobility teams—will remain operational.

In more recent updates regarding the October 12 holiday, the municipal government confirmed that festivities will include storytelling and cultural presentations at locations such as the Arruda Câmara Zoobotanical Park and Estação Cabo Branco. Additionally, in observance of National Disability Day, officials highlighted ongoing public policies aimed at the inclusion of people with disabilities, specifically noting efforts in health, social assistance, and urban mobility to promote autonomy and rights.

Regarding the upcoming holiday for Our Lady of Aparecida and Children’s Day, the city has expanded its programming to include educational activities and magic shows at various linear parks. To support these festivities, the Municipal Civil Guard is implementing ‘Operação Parque Seguro’ (Safe Park Operation) to increase patrols in high-traffic leisure areas.

Service adjustments include the suspension of mobile vaccination units on Monday for inventory organization, with services set to resume on Tuesday. While administrative offices remain closed, essential health, security, cleaning, and infrastructure services will continue to operate. Recent municipal developments also include the inauguration of the Ninho do Saber daycare center and ongoing digital transformation efforts through the Municipal Information Technology Unit (UMTI).
