Judicial detention cases in Montenegro

Overview

Legal proceedings and detention issues have surfaced in Montenegro involving various criminal allegations.

In mid-September, calls were made to the Minister of Justice to address the continued detention of Mijajlović and Drago Spičanović. Although legal proceedings against them were suspended, the High Court had not revoked their detention, a situation described by advocates as a “violation of the rule of law.”

By late September, the Supreme Court of Montenegro issued extensions for the detention of two other suspects. One individual, Ž. L., remains in custody until late December 2026 due to allegations of money laundering through fictitious real estate transactions. A second suspect, a Russian citizen identified as N. K., had his detention extended until January 1, 2027, on suspicion of illegal drug production and aiding suspects involved in a murder in Belgrade, Serbia.
