Justin Holbrook coaching tenure with Newcastle Knights

Overview

Newcastle Knights head coach Justin Holbrook has transitioned from a leading candidate for the NRL Coach of the Year award to securing a long-term contract extension with the club.

Following a period where Holbrook was recognized for his coaching merits, he led the Knights to their first NRL Grand Final in 25 years. Despite a narrow 19-18 loss to the Sydney Roosters, the club rewarded his leadership—which followed a 2025 wooden spoon campaign—by extending his contract until the end of 2030. Football director Chris James noted that Holbrook has successfully built a positive culture and reconnected the team with the Hunter community.
