Kalki 2898 AD sequel production

Production for the sequel to the science fiction film ‘Kalki 2898 AD’ has reached a milestone with approximately 30 percent of filming completed. Directed by Nag Ashwin, the project involves a large-scale development that includes a finalized special cameo for a major pan-Indian actor and potential on-screen scenes between Amitabh Bachchan and Kamal Haasan.

Director Nag Ashwin has provided updates confirming that regular filming is scheduled to resume in mid-October 2026, following the coordination of schedules for lead actors Prabhas, Amitabh Bachchan, and Kamal Haasan. The production team aims to complete filming by mid-2027, with a targeted theatrical release in 2028.

Ashwin stated that the sequel will expand the existing mythological-dystopian universe without introducing new major characters, noting there are no plans to add new faces to the ensemble. This follows the departure of Deepika Padukone from the project; however, the future of her character, Sumathi, remains a point of discussion as the production intends to move forward within the established character arcs. The sequel is expected to be larger in scale and emotional depth than the original film, which received National Film Awards for ‘Best Popular Film Providing Wholesome Entertainment’ and ‘Best Special Effects’.
