Karnataka infrastructure land acquisition disputes

Legal and administrative scrutiny over large-scale infrastructure and land acquisition projects in Karnataka has intensified.

The Karnataka High Court quashed land acquisition proceedings for the Bengaluru-Mysuru Infrastructure Corridor Project (BMICP), labeling it a major scam. The court noted that the project had failed to progress significantly over two decades, leaving hundreds of farmers without compensation for their land, and ordered an independent investigation and forensic audit.

In a separate effort to address land acquisition concerns, the Karnataka government formed a high-level committee to review the Bidadi Township (Greater Bengaluru Integrated Suburban Project). This committee is tasked with evaluating the proposed 7,481-acre development from legal, humanitarian, and developmental perspectives following political opposition and farmer protests. The government has stated that land acquisition for this project will be voluntary and has proposed higher compensation models.
