Karnataka packaged water safety inspections
Overview
The Karnataka Food Safety and Drug Administration Department conducted a statewide crackdown on packaged drinking water manufacturing units to prevent the sale of unsafe products. During a two day inspection drive on October 29 and 30, officials inspected over 100 units across the state.
Twelve establishments were shut down due to serious violations, including unhygienic production conditions, operating without valid FSSAI licenses, missing medical certificates for staff, labeling defects, and a lack of pest control certification. Misbranded water was seized in Mysuru and Davanagere, while a unit in Kolar was closed for poor hygiene.
Health and Family Welfare Minister U. T. Khader stated that dozens of notices were issued to other units and numerous water samples were collected for laboratory testing. Officials collected 69 water samples for laboratory testing to ensure safety standards.
