Katsina State food security and nutrition initiatives
Overview
Katsina State has implemented several measures to address malnutrition and enhance food security. The state government launched the 2026 SMART Nutrition Survey to gather data on stunting and underweight levels among women and children. To support this, Governor Dikko Radda committed N500 million to the Child Nutrition Fund, aimed at providing micronutrient supplements and therapeutic products for severe wasting.
In addition to nutrition-specific interventions, the state has introduced broader food security initiatives. This includes a $1 million project, ‘Protecting Food Security Against Recurring Floods and Drought’, implemented by Mercy Corps Nigeria to build resilience against climate change and post-harvest losses. Local support has also been provided through private donations of fertilizer, cash, and seedlings to assist farming communities.
