KEK workplace safety task force formation
Overview
Following worker fatalities at the Kosovo Energy Corporation (KEK), the company’s Board of Directors and management announced the formation of an Industrial Safety and Occupational Health Task Force. This group, which includes external experts, is tasked with reviewing existing protocols and standards to identify deficiencies and implement improvements. Management stated that workplace risk assessments are being conducted and emphasized that “no operational or production objective can take precedence over the lives of employees.”
In response to the incidents, the New Union of KEK decided to join the task force. This decision followed protests and meetings with KEK leadership. The union indicated that its participation is intended to ensure worker well-being and maintain production continuity while resolving issues affecting employees.
