Overview

Kenya is advancing its digital infrastructure through large-scale physical projects and strategic international cooperation. The country is developing major submarine cable systems, including the Daraja subsea cable—a partnership between Meta and Safaricom linking Oman to Mombasa—and the LuLu Coastal Cable System, which aims to strengthen connectivity along the Indian Ocean coast using a dual-path architecture.

Complementing these maritime projects, the Kenyan government is treating digital infrastructure as a critical national asset through its ‘Digital Superhighway’ project. This initiative involves the deployment of 100,000 kilometers of fiber and the establishment of 1,450 digital hubs. Furthermore, Kenya has entered into a Digital Dialogue with the European Union to cooperate on telecommunications, artificial intelligence, and data governance, with the goal of expanding high-speed connectivity to public offices, schools, and health centers.
