In response to the growing unrest, the Kenyan government has announced a 90-day amnesty period. This window allows undocumented foreign traders to regularize their immigration and business licensing status through their respective embassies. Kenyan Foreign Minister Musalia Mudavadi clarified that the policy is a regulatory measure to ensure compliance with national laws and the EAC Common Market Protocol, rather than a blanket ban. While legal bodies like the East Africa Law Society warn of potential discrimination, the Nigerian High Commissioner has advised Nigerian citizens to remain aware but noted there is no immediate cause for alarm among their population.
