Kerala landslide and train derailment
Overview
A landslide near the Parassala railway station in Kerala’s Thiruvananthapuram district caused the derailment of the Bilaspur-Tirunelveli Express locomotive early on October 22, 2026. The incident followed heavy rainfall in the region.
Southern Railway confirmed that all passengers and staff were safe. To manage the disruption, the Bilaspur-Tirunelveli Express was rerouted to terminate at Neyyattinkara, with buses arranged to transport passengers for the cancelled section between Neyyattinkara and Tirunelveli. The landslide resulted in the cancellation of six passenger trains and caused delays for several other services, including the Kanniyakumari-Mangaluru Central Parasuram Express.
Railway officials utilized a second engine to move the train forward while working to repair the tracks.
