Kevin Mier career at Cruz Azul

Overview

In September 2026, Cruz Azul goalkeeper Kevin Mier faced intense criticism following a significant error during a Liga MX Apertura match against Rayados de Monterrey. Mier lost control of the ball while attempting to play it with his feet, allowing César Garza to score into an empty net. Media reports noted that this was not an isolated incident, citing previous errors against Atlas, Querétaro, and Club América.

By October 2026, Mier reached a milestone by playing his 100th official match for Cruz Azul during a fixture against FC Juárez. He became only the third goalkeeper in the last 30 years of the Liga MX short tournament era to surpass 100 appearances for the club, joining Óscar ‘Conejo’ Pérez and José de Jesús Corona. His tenure includes titles such as the Liga MX 2026 and the Concacaf Champions Cup 2025, as well as individual honors including the 2025 Liga MX Golden Ball for best goalkeeper.
