Kidnappings and abductions in Spain

Overview

A series of violent kidnappings and abductions linked to criminal activity have occurred in Spain.

In late September, five masked individuals impersonating police officers intercepted a vehicle on the AP-7 highway near Vilanova del Vallès. The assailants forcibly removed a passenger, who was later released with serious injuries. Investigators are treating the incident as illegal deprivation of liberty and impersonation of law enforcement, noting that the motive may be related to drug trafficking.

In early October, Spanish National Police rescued a 43-year-old man in Molina de Segura who had been kidnapped from a gaming hall in Alguazas. The victim was subjected to severe torture, including being beaten with a metal bar and being sprayed with alcohol in an attempt to burn him alive. Three men were arrested following the raid, and authorities stated the crime was allegedly motivated by a drug debt.
