Kidney stone surgical procedures in Turkey

Overview

Medical reports from Turkey highlight successful surgical interventions for large kidney stones using minimally invasive techniques.

In Muğla, surgeons at the Education and Research Hospital utilized the Endoscopic Combined Intra-Renal Surgery (ECIRS) method to remove a 4-centimetre stone in a single session. Prof. Dr. Hasan Deliktaş noted that this technique “allows patients to recover more quickly, lowers the risk of complications, and significantly improves treatment success.”

In Samsun, urology specialist Prof. Dr. Mustafa Bolat performed a procedure at Medicana International Samsun Hospital to remove a 5 cm ‘staghorn’ shaped stone. The surgery involved creating a 1 cm channel through the patient's back to access and extract the stone. Prof. Dr. Bolat cautioned that large stones may not always cause pain and warned that high animal protein consumption and unregulated herbal supplements are risk factors for stone formation.
