Koder House heritage building fire in Kochi

Overview

A fire broke out at Koder House, a 218-year-old heritage building in Fort Kochi, on a Tuesday evening. The blaze, which is suspected to have been caused by a short circuit, gutted much of the structure’s upper floor. The red-brick mansion is a significant landmark associated with the Jewish heritage of Kochi.

To prevent the fire from spreading to adjacent buildings due to strong coastal winds, firefighting efforts involved two fire and rescue units from Mattanchery, as well as assistance from the Navy and Coast Guard. The building was reportedly being converted into a heritage hotel at the time of the incident.
