Konfederacja Kraków mayoral election failure
Overview
The Konfederacja party failed to register its candidate, Bartosz Bocheńczak, for the early mayoral elections in Kraków after failing to collect the necessary number of valid signatures. Many of the approximately 5,000 signatures gathered were deemed invalid due to incorrect PESEL numbers or being from non-residents.
The failure triggered internal conflict, with representatives associated with Sławomir Mentzen blaming the nationalist wing, specifically Ruch Narodowy, for failing to provide sufficient signatures. In response, Mentzen removed Bocheńczak from his position as head of the Kraków district and suspended local officials, referring the matter to a party court.
Following the incident, Beata Szydło of the Law and Justice (PiS) party criticized Konfederacja on Polsat News, stating that the lack of organizational efficacy in Kraków undermines the credibility of the broader conservative movement. She urged right-wing groups to “get organized and get to work” to prevent internal divisions from weakening their political standing.
