Kongsberg PROTECTOR C-UAS system developments

Overview

Kongsberg has advanced its PROTECTOR remote weapon station (RWS) capabilities through new technological integrations and international defense contracts.

Initially, the company integrated the US-based Echodyne MESA radar into its PROTECTOR RS4 and RS6 systems. This solid-state, electronically scanned array radar is designed to improve counter-unmanned aircraft system (C-UAS) performance by providing high-fidelity tracking data for small, fast-moving, and low-signature drone threats.

Following these technical developments, Kongsberg signed a contract with Oshkosh Defense Europe to supply the Dutch armed forces with PROTECTOR C-UAS solutions. These systems, integrated with RS4 remote weapon stations, will be mounted on Oshkosh Joint Light Tactical Vehicles (JLTVs) for the Royal Netherlands Marine Corps. This equipment is part of the FLATM-PV programme, with the vehicles expected to enter service starting in 2028 under the name ‘Kaaiman’.
