Regulatory scrutiny of the dairy sector in Kosovo has intensified following food safety violations and industry-wide calls for stricter enforcement of ingredient bans. In late August, the Food and Veterinary Agency (AUV) blocked two shipments of UHT milk at the Bllacë border crossing after testing revealed aflatoxin levels exceeding legal limits. The 27,520 kilograms of milk were destroyed under veterinary supervision. By early September, the Kosovo Dairy Association escalated demands for the full enforcement of bans on products containing palm oil and powdered milk. While noting improvements in supermarkets, the Association reported these ingredients still circulate through bakeries, restaurants, and direct sales. They have called for the revocation of licenses for non-compliant operators and a comprehensive investigation into the trade of these substances over the last 15 years, asserting that “State decisions are not an option — they must be implemented!” On September 15, the AUV announced ordered a market withdrawal recall of ‘SELECT MILK GR’, a dairy cow concentrate produced by DE HEUS D.
