Kosovo-KFOR security and bridge negotiations
Overview
A planned meeting between KFOR Commander Ozkan Ulutas and Kosovo Prime Minister Albin Kurti was canceled due to ‘unforeseen circumstances’. The meeting was intended to discuss the potential reopening of the main bridge over the Ibar River in Mitrovica, a sensitive dividing line between the predominantly Serb-populated north and the Albanian-populated south.
Following the cancellation, KFOR stated that the commander remains in contact with officials in Pristina to maintain security. Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić criticized the proposed meeting, suggesting it signaled that negotiations are futile, and expressed his intention to contact NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte regarding the implementation of the 2013 Brussels Agreement.
