Kraków regional transport infrastructure developments
Overview
Kraków is undergoing several public transport infrastructure developments. In late September 2026, the city secured 172.76 million PLN in European Union funding for a new 2.3 km tram line connecting Krowodrza Górka to Azory. This project, estimated to cost 250 million PLN, is expected to include sidewalks, bicycle paths, and a parking lot, with construction aimed to begin by mid-2027.
Following the launch of a new tram route to Mistrzejowice on September 26, local officials expressed concerns regarding low passenger numbers at underground stops such as Rondo Młyńskie, citing potential issues with steep stairs and a lack of escalators.
Additionally, new regional rail connections are being established, with three direct Intercity services between Żywiec and Kraków scheduled to begin on December 13, 2026. While the current route passes through Bielsko-Biała, Czechowice-Dziedzice, and Oświęcim, local authorities in Suski County have requested a diversion through Sucha Beskidzka to utilize modernized infrastructure.
