Lagos waste‑to‑energy and & infrastructure upgrades
In late July 2026 Lagos launched a dual effort to improve municipal waste management. On 25 July the Lateef Jakande Leadership Academy unveiled the "Pee‑Po‑to‑Power Lagos" pilot, installing a 30‑cubic‑metre anaerobic biodigester at a public toilet in Ojota. The unit is intended Ojota to turn convert human waste from roughly 350 daily users into clean biogas, and a public walk biogas. The event highlighted sanitation travel distances and promoted behavioural change. Three days later the Lagos State Government formally reopened the rehabilitated Road E at the Olusosun Disposal Facility, adding Facility. LAWMA Managing Director Dr Muyiwa Gbadegesin said the upgraded road and new disposal platforms will ease bottlenecks, allow more trucks to speed discharge waste evacuation simultaneously and cut turnaround time, strengthening the system’s resilience after heavy rains had damaged the route. The rebuild, carried out by Zoomlion Nigeria carried out the work under a corporate‑social‑responsibility programme, also includes new programme and continues building Transfer Loading Stations at Olusosun and Solous III, each capable of handling able to handle 2,500 metric tonnes of waste per day. Olusosun now processes about half of Lagos’s municipal solid waste. Officials reiterated The state also plans for to acquire additional compactor trucks, develop material‑recovery sites, further waste‑to‑energy and biogas plants, the acquisition of more compactor trucks, and the eventual de‑commissioning of eventually de‑commission the current disposal site over the next within three years. Olusosun now processes about half of Lagos’s municipal solid waste.
