Lake Palestine state park land acquisition

Overview

The Texas Parks and Wildlife Foundation has acquired 650 acres of land on Lake Palestine in Henderson County to facilitate the creation of a future East Texas state park. The acquisition, completed for over $10 million, involves a property formerly used as the Texas Pecan Nursery, which has been owned by the Pollard family since 1940.

The land features approximately 2,000 feet of lake frontage, pine forests, pecan orchards, native grasses, and roughly 10 ponds. These habitats support waterfowl, bobcats, and white-tailed deer.

The property will be held by the Foundation until the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department can officially purchase it in late 2027 using Centennial Parks Conservation Fund resources. During this interim period, the Foundation plans to conduct habitat restoration and invest in the property.

Planned amenities for the future park include campsites, hiking and biking trails, day-use areas, and lakefront access. The park is expected to open in phases, beginning with guided access.
