Lalu Prasad Yadav family IRCTC money laundering case

Overview

A Delhi court has adjourned the formal framing of money laundering charges against former Bihar Chief Minister Lalu Prasad Yadav, his wife Rabri Devi, and his son Tejashwi Yadav until October 30. The proceedings at the Rouse Avenue Court involve the Lara Projects case, which is linked to an alleged IRCTC hotel tender scam.

The Enforcement Directorate (ED) maintains that between 2005 and 2014, contracts for IRCTC hotels in Ranchi and Puri were manipulated to benefit Sujata Hotels. In exchange, the ED alleges that land in Patna was transferred to Delight Marketing Company Private Limited (later renamed Lara Projects) at undervalued rates. The agency further claims that shares of this company were subsequently transferred to Rabri Devi and Tejashwi Yadav at minimal costs.

During the hearing, Tejashwi Yadav alleged that the family is being subjected to “political targeting” by central agencies, including the ED and CBI. The court also noted it would seek confirmation from the ED regarding Lalu Prasad Yadav’s request for exemption from future court appearances due to his ongoing health condition.
