Landslides and disruptions in Sikkim

Overview

In August, heavy rainfall caused debris to block National Highway 10 at Bardang in Sikkim, disrupting essential connectivity between the state and West Bengal. Road clearance teams were deployed to restore the transport artery.

By early September, a landslide near the Naga Forest area caused a partial blockage of the Teesta and Chyakoong rivers near their confluence in Mangan. While the Teesta River’s flow returned to normal, authorities monitored muddy water levels and issued precautionary alerts for vulnerable areas in the lower belt. No injuries or loss of life were reported following the river obstruction.
