Overview
A major energy blackout in Lanzarote and La Graciosa disrupted electricity and water services for approximately 73,600 customers. The failure originated at the Mácher substation in Tías and was compounded by subsequent faults at the San Bartolomé and Punta Grande substations.

In response, the Canary Islands government activated the pre-alert status of the PLATECA civil protection plan and the Lanzarote Insular Emergency Plan (PEIN). President Fernando Clavijo attributed the incident to obsolete electrical equipment and announced an investigation to clarify the causes, emphasizing the need to renew energy infrastructure to prevent future occurrences.
