L'Aquila urban planning and infrastructure developments

The Municipality of L'Aquila has concluded a public consultation phase for its new Municipal Urban Plan, receiving over 350 proposals from citizens, professionals, and economic operators. These proposals focus on expanding urban perimeters, regenerating existing areas, and converting buildable land into green or agricultural zones. Urban Planning Councilor Francesco De Santis noted that the administration intends to evaluate these contributions with a focus on limiting land consumption and improving urban quality while adhering to environmental safety standards.

Following these planning developments, the Provincial Council of L'Aquila approved a budget variation for 2026-2028, allocating nearly 6 million euros to infrastructure, school safety, and territorial security. Significant funds are designated for seismic improvements and maintenance at various educational institutes, including the ‘Amedeo D’Aosta’ higher education institute. The allocation also covers maintenance for the Collemaggio monumental complex, various provincial and regional road projects, and the safety of waterways such as the Raiale river and the Rio Forcella.
