LATAM Airlines technical incidents

Overview

In mid-October 2026, LATAM Airlines experienced two separate technical incidents involving Airbus A320 aircraft.

On October 19, an aircraft scheduled to fly from Lima, Peru, to Piura caught fire on its left engine and wing during takeoff preparations at Jorge Chávez International Airport. Emergency protocols were activated, and all passengers and crew were evacuated. No injuries were reported, and the airline described the event as an “unforeseen technical event.”

On October 22, a LATAM Airlines Brasil flight traveling from São Paulo to Porto Alegre performed an emergency landing at Salgado Filho International Airport. The aircraft, carrying 117 people, requested priority landing after an engine shut down over Curitiba. The landing was completed safely, and while no injuries occurred, the return flight was canceled due to required maintenance.
