Municipal animal-welfare programs in Latin America continued to expand through September 2026, focusing on sterilization, vaccination, and adoption. In Brazil, veterinary assistance programs in Paraná intensified, including the ‘Vet-Móvel Paraná’ program and a neutering campaign in Guaraqueçaba. Other Brazilian cities like Marília and Bauru also launched specific sterilization initiatives. In Neuquén, a municipal adoption event at Parque Norte resulted in 44 animals—42 dogs and two cats—finding homes, an initiative Luciana De Giovanetti described as “super successful.” Additionally, Tafí Viejo began awareness campaigns regarding animal cruelty laws, while San Miguel de Tucumán launched a digital platform for scheduling free sterilization appointments. In Mexico, services expanded in Aguascalientes, Tecate, and Piedras Negras. The Municipality of Amozoc also held mass sterilization ‘jornadas’ to control pet populations. In Paraguay, the National Directorate of Animal Defense, Health and Welfare established a dedicated email channel for low-income families to request free sterilization services. In Colombia, the Municipality of El Carmen de Viboral, in coordination with the Government of Antioquia, completed a mass welfare event that benefited over 160 animals through sterilization. In Peru, the Provincial Municipality of Andahuaylas inaugurated the region's first municipal veterinary clinic, offering services at social prices.
