Latin American educational nutrition initiatives

Educational institutions across Latin America have implemented various programs focused on nutrition and cardiovascular health. In Argentina, Colegio Universitario Central participated in the “Escuelas Cardiosaludables” program, which utilized an interdisciplinary curriculum to teach students about cardiovascular prevention, including nutrition, physical activity, and the risks of nicotine. Simultaneously, Mexico’s Universidad Autónoma del Noreste hosted the International Congress of Nutrition and Body Composition, attracting approximately 1,000 attendees to discuss clinical nutrition and eating behavior.

In Chile, the Universidad Andrés Bello held a Food Day event featuring lectures on sustainable eating habits and food safety. Students at the event demonstrated technical food preparations aimed at reducing waste. Additionally, in the Antofagasta Region, the National Board of School Aid and Scholarships (Junaeb) conducted tasting sessions for the School Feeding Program (PAE) at the ICEDUC institute. This initiative allowed students and parents to evaluate potential menu updates for 2027 to ensure the suitability of new dishes for the school meal program.
