Latin American transport sector labor unrest

Overview

Transport workers across several Latin American nations have engaged in various forms of labor actions and protests. Initial unrest included taxi drivers in Honduras protesting rising fuel prices, transport companies in Peru considering strikes due to violence against drivers, and workers in Uruguay and Argentina protesting diesel costs and unpaid wages.

In Honduras, the situation escalated as taxi drivers affiliated with ATAXUH announced a potential strike to demand diesel price freezes, citing insufficient coverage of operational costs. The Honduran Minister of Infrastructure and Transport has called for dialogue between the Honduran Institute of Land Transport and transporters to prevent a suspension of services.
