Law enforcement drug and smuggling crackdowns

Law enforcement agencies in Malaysia, Taiwan, and Australia have conducted significant operations targeting smuggling and narcotics production.

In Malaysia, joint raids by the Marine Police District 4 and the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission in Sabah resulted in the seizure of untaxed cigarettes and beer valued at approximately 5.37 million ringgit. In Taiwan, a joint task force dismantled a drug manufacturing facility in a Taoyuan industrial zone. The lab, which used chemical odors from a nearby factory to mask production, yielded 42.84 kilograms of ‘Meow Meow’ and 60 kilograms of precursor materials.

In Australia, Tasmania Police intercepted two vehicles near Burnie, seizing 17kg of methamphetamine. Described as the largest single seizure of the drug in the state’s history, the haul has an estimated street value of $8.5 million. Two men, including an alleged member of an outlaw motorcycle gang, were taken into custody. Detective Inspector Troy Morrisby characterized the seizure as “an outstanding result” intended to prevent “catastrophic harm to individuals and the broader community.”
