Law enforcement operations in South America and Europe
Overview
Law enforcement agencies in Brazil, Portugal, Chile, Argentina, Mexico, and Spain continue to conduct operations targeting organized crime, drug trafficking, and violent offenses. In Brazil, recent actions include the arrest of Juares Marques dos Santos, known as ‘Lázaro de Ermida’, for a 2025 feminicide. In Minas Gerais, a suspect was arrested for feminicide after being a fugitive for nearly a year. Significant drug seizures include 700kg of skunk in Manaus, believed to have been transported from Colombia, and 1.45 tons of marijuana in western Santa Catarina. In Rio de Janeiro, authorities seized 62kg of cocaine. In São Paulo, police recovered half a ton of stolen copper and arrested two brothers suspected of kidnapping and torturing a teenager. In Bahia, the Federal Police and CGU are conducting ‘Operation Severus’ to investigate public contract fraud in Gongogi.
In Salvador, the ‘Operação Perímetro Zero’ resulted in the death of Allan Rodrigues dos Santos, known as ‘3 Bond’, ‘Sete’, or ‘3 de Ouro’. Identified as a leader of the ‘Baralho do Crime’ organization, Santos was involved in drug trafficking, homicide, and illegal possession of restricted firearms. The confrontation involved approximately 150 civil and military police officers, including BOPE and CORE, utilizing drones and helicopters. During the operation, authorities located two clandestine camps used by the criminal organization in a wooded area of Barro Duro. Santos reportedly took a woman hostage and opened fire on officers before being shot; he later died at a health unit. Police seized a 7.62 caliber rifle, a .40 caliber pistol with a burst selector, over 300 rounds of ammunition, marijuana, cash, and a stolen vehicle.
In Mexico, authorities at the Mexico City International Airport (AICM) seized approximately 2 million counterfeit cigarettes from Thailand, weighing roughly 2.8 tons.
