Lebanese Mufti criticism of executive authority
Overview
Sheikh Ahmed Kabalan, the Jaafari Mufti, has issued a series of warnings regarding the Lebanese government’s actions and their impact on national sovereignty and sectarian stability.
Initially, Kabalan accused the executive authority of implementing policies of “starvation, impoverishment, and abandonment” of citizens. He alleged that the administration is acting as an internal agent for an American project intended to isolate and suppress the Shiite community through political and logistical means.
In subsequent statements, the focus of Kabalan’s criticism expanded to include diplomatic and security concerns in Southern Lebanon. He claimed that current negotiations are being conducted in a way that undermines national sovereignty and effectively hands security control to Israel. He characterized these diplomatic efforts as a coordinated project between Washington and Tel Aviv to dismantle Lebanon’s national identity.
