Legal dispute involving South African rapper Emtee

Overview

South African rapper Mthembeni ‘Emtee’ Ndevu faced legal proceedings in Midrand following allegations that he violated a 2023 protection order involving his estranged wife, Nicole Chinsamy. The order prohibited Ndevu from contacting Chinsamy or engaging in verbal abuse via social media or other means.

In mid-August, a magistrate revoked Ndevu’s R1,000 bail and returned him to custody after he allegedly sent offensive text messages to Chinsamy, breaching his release conditions.

By early September, Ndevu was released on R2,000 bail after spending 16 days at the Johannesburg Correctional Centre. During the court proceedings, Chinsamy indicated she would withdraw the case. Although the case was withdrawn, Ndevu remains subject to strict conditions, including the requirement to comply with the existing protection order and a prohibition against posting about Chinsamy on social media. He was also ordered to remove previous social media posts regarding her.
